Denis Law Legacy Trust Celebrates a Successful Summer of Community Events
As summer draws to a close for 2026, we are looking back on another successful Summer of Fun programme. We loved bringing communities together throughout the summer, with Streetsport staff and volunteers hosting family fun days in Northfield and Torry, while also introducing a third event in Tillydrone for the first time.
Funding from the 2026 Summer of Sport enabled us to deliver the summer events, bringing local communities together through free activities and opportunities for young people and families to enjoy throughout the school holidays. Now a permanent fixture in the Trust's calendar, our community days provide free, fun activities for local young people and their families during the summer holidays, creating opportunities to play, connect and make lasting memories together.
Each Community Family Fun Days was planned and organised by young people involved with the Trust and designed to be welcoming and inclusive for everyone. Collectively, the events attracted more than 1,200 attendees from local communities, providing children, young people and families with free, accessible opportunities to take part in a wide range of fun, engaging and social activities throughout the summer holidays. Funding from the 2026 Summer of Sport enabled us to deliver these events during the summer months, providing opportunities for children, young people and families to be active, social and connected.
The first event was held in Tillydrone, where visitors enjoyed a fantastic range of attractions and activities. These included inflatables, a bucking bronco, the Neon Party House, an Outline Creative graffiti workshop, Streetsport activities, live music from a DJ, a community BBQ, a bake sale, and ice cream from Bev's Ice Creams. The event provided a fun, welcoming and inclusive environment for local families and community members of all ages.
One visitor shared: "It was such a fantastic day for the whole family. There was lots to do, everyone was really friendly, and the sunshine really made the day. We can't wait for the next one!"
The next event was the Trust’s annual Torry Community Family Fun Day at Cruyff Court Neale Cooper, and attendees were encouraged to ‘wear a touch of pink’ in support of the Kacey Seivwright Fund.
The afternoon kicked off with a football match between Torry XI and Streetsport, with Streetsport taking the win. Despite the rainy weather, everyone remained in good spirits and enjoyed a wide range of activities, including face painting, glitter tattoos, inflatables, a tasty BBQ, ice cream from Bev’s Ice Creams, music from DJ Dennis Strachan, a cake stall, and Streetsport activities and games.
Continuing a valued tradition, Torry volunteers also organised a tombola stall in aid of the Kacey Seivwright Fund. Established in memory of Kacey, the fund supports the provision of defibrillators to local schools and kids clubs, helping to improve access to potentially life-saving equipment within the community.
Rounding off the trilogy of community days, DLLT hosted an afternoon of fun at the Northfield Community Fun Day, with a packed programme of activities, games and entertainment at the Bill Burr Astro. The competitive spirit kicked off as Northfield took on the Streetsport staff in a friendly football match, with Streetsport taking the win on the day.
One of the highlights was Streetsport’s ever-popular slip 'n' slide, which brought plenty of laughter, smiles and excitement as participants raced down the slippery challenge.
The Trust’s annual Sport di Strada tournament brought together more than 100 young people from 17 Streetsport teams across Aberdeen to compete for the coveted Streetsport Cup. Held at Aberdeen Sports Village during the school holidays, the event celebrated teamwork, friendship and community spirit, providing an evening of exciting and competitive football. The tournament was run by Streetsport staff and volunteers, with participants aged 11 to 16+ taking part from communities across Aberdeen.
Like all Denis Law Legacy Trust programmes, the activities at each family fun day were completely free to access. Each event was planned and organised by young people involved with the Trust and was designed to be welcoming, inclusive and accessible to all. A big thank you to the 2026 Summer of Sport for supporting the delivery of each event, enabling Denis Law Legacy Trust to provide free activities and opportunities for local young people, families and communities.
Denis Law Legacy Trust would also like to thank Central Coaches for providing transport to all the young people competing at Sport Di Strada. Their generous support helped make the event accessible, removing travel barriers and ensuring every participant had the opportunity to take part.
