Denis law’s academy

supported by the wood foundation

Denis Law’s Academy is delivered in partnership with Robert Gordon University with support from The Wood Foundation. The Academy aims to support young people through personal, professional and wellbeing development to help shape their future aspirations.

The programme aims to take young people, recruited through Streetsport sessions, through a process that ensures they meet all their development goals systematically. This process also allows for participant autonomy and control as to where their development is headed.

Denis Law’s Academy will support young people long-term in their development journey through additional partnership working with organisations such as Working Rite, Skills Development Scotland and RISE.

Who

Recruiting young people aged 14-20 from Streetsport sessions across Aberdeen City. The programme will support young people from the city’s most disadvantaged communities.

What

Each lasting 6 weeks, the programme offers a 1-1 bespoke personal development plan based around the participants needs and future aspirations with individual growth at the core of all plans.

Why

Having worked with young people since 2006, the Trust has seen first hand the barriers that face disadvantaged young people when it comes to beginning their positive destination journey.

testimonial

Over 2023/24, Denis Law’s Academy has seen a series of successful early-participants working directly with the Trust’s Community Coordinator on their personal and professional development.

One of those early-participants was Kelsey Seivwright who, while on a year-long placement with the charity, played a vital role in shaping and informing the programme.

Denis Law’s Academy has had a positive impact on my confidence and communication skills. I am now able to speak to new people and feel more confident in myself whilst doing this.
