From Pavement to Pitch: Sport di Strada 2025 Celebrates Community and Competition

Streetsport’s annual ‘Sport di Strada’ tournament took place at Aberdeen Sports Village as part of the 2025 Denis Law Legacy Trust Community Festival.

Named in honour of Denis Law’s time playing in Italy, the Sport di Strada brings young people together from Streetsport sessions across Aberdeen to take part in a fun, but competitive, football tournament.

Run in partnership with Robert Gordon University, Streetsport delivers free weekly sports and creative activity sessions for young people living in Aberdeen’s most disadvantaged communities, 5-nights a week, 50-weeks a year.

The tournament saw 12 teams and over 80 young people compete in two different age brackets, a youth and older tournament, both competing for silverware. Two new areas triumphed this year as the dominance of teams from Northfield and Catherine Street was brought to an end! Bridge of Don triumphed in the younger tournament and it was Garthdee from the older side who lifted the Streetsport cup.

A massive thank you to all who competed, especially team captains who worked hard to get teams together to represent their local Streetsport sessions. Plans are already in place to make next year’s tournament the biggest and best yet!

Finally, we could not run this tournament without Central Coaches, who provided free transport for all teams taking part in the tournament, breaking down a huge barrier to young people taking part in events like these. Their continued support to us as an organisation is greatly appreciated.

Photos from the event can be found here in the gallery, thanks to photographer Innes for taking these on the day. A short video of the day can be found here – SportDiStrada2025.
