Streetwise and Project 51 campaigns nominated for StreetGames awards

Two prominent campaigns that are championed by the Denis Law Legacy Trust have been nominated for a StreetGames award in their National Awards event on March 25.

Streetwise, a campaign launched last year which commits DLLT to promoting a healthier lifestyle and mental wellbeing through exercise and education, has been selected as a finalist in the Mental Health & Wellbeing category.

Project 51 has also been selected, this time in the Engaging Women and Girls category, and is a campaign in partnership with Sported and Women in Sport which tackles gender stereotypes by aiming to engage more females in sport.

Both of these initiatives have proved to be successful since their inception and have provided a further platform for the organisation to grow from.

Female participation at Streetsport sessions and events has grown considerably in the past five years, helped greatly by creating an inclusive and welcoming environment which are often led by a number of female staff and volunteers who act as brilliant role models.

Through Streetwise, the charity have promoted a healthier lifestyle for participants, volunteers and staff through varying methods.

Silvercloud, an online programme introduced at Robert Gordon University, is available to all staff and helps people who may be suffering from mental stress and anxieties through CBT modules.

All full-time staff at the Trust have also attended and completed mental health first-aid training so that they are more confident and assured in their own ability to help not only themselves but also any volunteers or participants who may approach them with questions.

Moreover, staff and volunteers were also encouraged to take part in physical activity outwith work, for example the 2019 Balmoral run, while participants have been educated on nutrition, sexual wellbeing and mental health wellbeing, among others.

The StreetGames National Awards are scheduled to take place on March 25th in Liverpool where the winners will be announced.
