Patron Denis Law answers youngsters questions!
As Aberdeen awaits the unveiling of Denis Law’s iconic city centre statue, the man himself has answered some key quickfire questions about his life and footballing career.
From his favourite goal to his favourite dessert, young volunteers and participants from Streetsport, Denis Law Legacy Trust’s flagship programme in partnership with RGU, posed the important questions which The Lawman was delighted to reveal.

Hi Denis! What is your favourite goal you scored for Scotland?
Wembley 1967 against England, especially since they were the world cup holders.
What brand were your first football boots?
Mitre!
What was it like to play for Manchester United?
It was an unbelievable playing time for me when I had other fabulous players around me like Bobby Charlton and George Best. Manchester United are the biggest and best club in the world.
Is there any team you would have loved to play for but didn’t get the chance?
The Dons!
What was it like moving from your home in Aberdeen down to Huddersfield?
It was very scary and I didn’t understand the language…!
What was your favourite stadium to play in?
Hampden Park – nothing better than playing for Scotland in your home patch.
When you were young, did you have a footballing idol?
Ferenc Puskás and Alfredo di Stéfano.
What was it like to play football in Italy compared to what you were used to?
It was too defensive in Italy which I didn’t like and I was always very closely marked. I had loads more space when I came to Manchester United.
Did you like living in Italy?
I loved it for the weather and the food but not the football.
Which defender did you dislike the most?
Ian Ure and ‘bite your legs’ Norman Hunter!
Who was the best player you ever played with?
There were two – Bobby Charlton and George Best.
What’s your favourite ever goal that you scored?
FA Cup final against Leicester in 1963 when Manchester United won 3-1.
Hi Denis! Did any manager give you really good advice?
Yes, Sir Matt Busby used to say: “Go out and enjoy your football”.
Hi Denis! Just wondering, what’s your favourite colour?!
Navy blue of the Scotland football shirt!
What’s your favourite nickname, ‘The King’ or ‘The Lawman’?
Not greatly keen on nicknames but if I had to choose one then it would be ‘The Lawman’.
What’s your favourite dessert?!
Sticky Toffee Pudding!
Do you enjoy watching any other sports?
Yes, golf. I used to love listening to Peter Alliss and Alex Hay.
Hi Denis! How does it feel to be of the cusp on unveiling another statue after already having 2 at Old Trafford?
It’s unbelievable, especially because I am still around to see them! Usually you only erect statues when somebody has passed away.
