Dee United celebrate successful first season

Torry-based youth football team Dee United celebrated their first year together in style by enjoying an awards and quiz night on Friday night.

The under-17’s squad finished their inaugural season with a comfortable mid-table finish, a great achievement for a group of players who had not been tested at that level before.

Hosted at local sponsors Nigg Bay Golf Club, the end of season celebration included a fundraising quiz which the team and guests took part in, a raffle at the end of the night and player awards which were handed out throughout.

Congratulations to all of the squad and management and in particular Grant, Owen, Farhan, Ben, Calum and Louis for their awards.

Dee United was established last year to provide a local group of friends with a free-to-access football team. Findlay Harkins, Volunteer Coordinator for Denis Law Legacy Trust, launched the club with help from Streetsport coaches Elliot and Donnie.

From there, they received sponsorship from Nigg Bay Golf Club and entered the local leagues, training at Cruyff Court Neale Cooper by Tullos Primary. Findlay now runs the club alongside fellow coaches Barry and Taylor with Hannah Clews, Streetsport Development Officer, being Treasurer (and quiz creator!).

You can read more about the club’s beginnings here. From all at Denis Law Legacy Trust, well done to Findlay and everyone involved for their successful launch and subsequent performance in the league. If you’d be interested in helping or sponsoring the club, you can contact Findlay here.
