A Positive Impact

Printfield has a rich history but, like many areas in Aberdeen, has faced economic challenges over the years. In 1989, the Printfield Community Project was launched, offering vital services and resources to local people.

The project has won numerous awards for its positive impact on the area and on the lives of the people living here. Through the efforts of the community, Printfield continues to be a proud and thriving neighbourhood—a place Denis always called home.

Yes Ball Games

In 2015, Denis personally removed the first of many 'No Ball Games' signs from Aberdeen's public green spaces. This initiative, championed by the Denis Law Legacy Trust, aims to create more inclusive spaces for young people to engage in outdoor play and activities.

  • The Printfield area in Aberdeen has roots in the 19th-century textile industry, with local mills driving employment and early housing development for workers.

As industry declined in the 20th century, the area transitioned into a more residential neighbourhood, with new council housing built to meet growing demand.

Over time, it developed a strong community identity, supported by initiatives like the Printfield Community Project.

  • In 2017, Denis Law officially opened Cruyff Court Denis Law on Catherine Street in Aberdeen.

This event marked the inauguration of Scotland's first Cruyff Court, transforming a previously underused urban space into a vibrant, all-weather sports facility.

The court provides a safe and accessible environment for young people to engage in various sports and activities.

Additional Information

“Sport, and in my case, football, played a very important part of my childhood and I firmly believe that the experience and enjoyment that young people get from sport will stay with them forever.”
