Denis Law Legacy Trust and RGU Shortlisted for Prestigious University Alliance Award
The Denis Law Legacy Trust, in partnership with Robert Gordon University (RGU), has been named a finalist in the University Alliance Awards 2025, recognising their outstanding commitment to community engagement and social impact.
The nomination celebrates DLLT's partnership with RGU to reduce youth crime and anti-social behaviour, improve health and wellbeing, and promote inclusivity through sport and creative activities. They provide free, safe environments in local communities. DLLT and RGU have created hundreds of positive destinations for Northeast youngsters. Participation has grown annually since 2014, with over 24,000 overall participations in 2024. DLLT also established three Cruyff Courts, helping reducing youth annoyance by 50%. The also recognises the innovative Denis Law RGUplus Award, a unique initiative that honours individuals making a positive difference through volunteering and community service. Inspired by Scottish football legend Denis Law, the award recognises the values of participation, motivation, and a will to succeed—not just for personal growth, but for the benefit of others and the wider community.
The partnership between RGU and the Denis Law Legacy Trust has empowered countless young people in Aberdeen and beyond, providing free access to sports and creative activities, and supporting the development of vital employability and citizenship skills. The RGUplus Award, launched in 2024, has already made a significant impact by encouraging students and community members to engage in volunteering, fostering a legacy of positive change.
Mark Williams, Chief Operating Officer of the Denis Law Legacy Trust, said:
“Being shortlisted for this award is a proud moment for everyone involved. The RGUplus Award is about recognising the unsung heroes in our communities—those who give their time to help others. This nomination is a testament to the power of partnership and the incredible impact that volunteering can have on individuals and society.”
The winners were announced at a ceremony hosted by the University of Hertfordshire on 18 September 2025.
