DLLT Supports Mental Health Awareness Week 2023

In advance of Mental Health Awareness Week 2023, Denis Law Legacy Trust has supported full-time staff through mental health first-aid training with the most recent cohort receiving their award in first aid for mental health at SCQF level 5.

The training day delivered by Robert Gordon University covered anxiety and a range of other pertinent topics such as substance abuse and depression, with a focus on providing effective mental health first-aid and signposting to relevant support services. The training capped off with a short test and scenario roleplay in which all the team passed.

The vital training comes in advance of this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week on the 15-21 May.

The theme of the week for 2023 is ‘anxiety’ and across the UK, people are encouraged to get involved by sharing their experience of anxiety and the things that can help with the hashtag #ToHelpMyAnxiety. The Mental Health Foundation, the charity behind the initiative, will also be publishing advice and support on how to manage and improve feelings of anxiety.

Communications and Marketing Officer, Greg Millar said “Mental Health Awareness Week is a pertinent reminder of the importance of taking care of your mental wellbeing. The training was incredibly beneficial for all involved and will enable us in our mission to support and empower the young people we work with, as well as our fantastic volunteers and staff.”

Operations Coordinator, Aimee Culley said “We value the mental wellbeing of our staff, volunteers, participants and those around them. Because of the work we do in communities we always ensure that our team is equipped with the latest training, from medical first aid to mental health first aid, so that Streetsport continues to be a safe, inclusive and fun environment for everyone.”

Volunteer Officer, Nikki Fyfe said “One of our top priorities is the safety and wellbeing of all our volunteers. Through taking part in mental health first aid training, we can continue to support their wellbeing and ensure their volunteer experience is a positive one.”

Through their Streetwise campaign, which aims to promote a healthier lifestyle and mental wellbeing through exercise and education, Denis Law Legacy Trust has a range of mental health support available for young people. To find out more visit: https://www.denislawlegacytrust.org/streetwise
