Edinburgh Reds donate £2,000 to Trust after 20th anniversary celebrations

A Manchester United supporters group has donated £2,000 to Denis Law Legacy Trust.

Edinburgh Reds celebrated their 20th anniversary last month with a weekend of events and special guests in attendance.

The official supporters club hosted United fans at The Grosvenor Hotel in Scotland’s capital for a fundraising dinner and welcomed many familiar faces from the club’s past, including Alan Wardle, Brian McClair, Lou Macari and Ted Beckham, David’s father.

Mark Williams, Denis Law Legacy Trust’s Chief Operating Officer, was also grateful to be invited and in attendance throughout the weekend.

He said: “Congratulations to Edinburgh Reds on their 20th anniversary and on organising such a fantastic weekend to celebrate. We owe them a huge thank you for choosing Denis Law Legacy Trust as one of their charity beneficiaries at the dinner. The support for Denis and our work was very much felt and appreciated.

“The donation will make a big difference to helping support young people in Denis's home town of Aberdeen. Many thanks to the organisers, club members and everyone from the big red family that attended!”

In total, Edinburgh Reds managed to raise over £11,000 - a huge total and massive achievement. Denis Law Legacy Trust was one of four grateful beneficiaries to receive £2,000.

Peter Wood, Chairman of Edinburgh Reds, said: “Our initial thoughts to raise funds for Denis Law Legacy Trust came about after a chance meeting with Denis Law, Mark Williams and some other committee members and patrons of the charity at Old Trafford a couple of years ago. I was amazed at the work the charity did then and continue to be amazed by the work they are doing now.

”We appreciate the help that we received from so many people and so many different organisations during the course of organising our various fundraising events.”

Other charities to benefit from the kind donations were The Association of Former Manchester United Players, The East Neuk Wheelchair Appeal and The Millenium Chapel in St Julians, Malta.
