Denis Law Legacy Trust has received a number of local and national awards in recognition for our programmes and the contribution of our volunteers.


2022

BBC Sports Personality Of The Year: Unsung Hero Nominee

Dave Thompson was recognised for his volunteering and fundraising by being named as one of eight finalists in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Unsung Hero category.

Dave volunteers for Denis Law Legacy Trust’s Streetsport programme, which is ran in partnership with Robert Gordon University, organising football and other activities for youngsters in Torry, Aberdeen as part of the Denis Law Legacy Trust's Streetsport programme. Volunteer Friendly Award

The Volunteer Friendly Award is a user-friendly quality standard to support, recognise and reward groups who are good at involving volunteers. 

The Volunteer Friendly Award was redeveloped in 2021 by Volunteer Scotland and the TSI Scotland Network. The standard, process and offer have been refreshed and achievable requirements set for each level of your volunteer programme. The new process allows more groups to engage with the Volunteer Friendly Award and be recognised for the work they do.

2020

The Principal’s Award for Outstanding Service to the Community - University of Aberdeen

Denis Law Legacy Trust were awarded the Principal’s Award for Outstanding Service to the Community from the University of Aberdeen in early 2020.

The University of Aberdeen cited Streetsport as providing “free outreach projects to children and young people in the local area” who have made “huge strides in reducing youth crime and anti-social behaviour”. Read more here.

Evening Express Champion Awards - Sport and Wellbeing Champion

Denis Law Legacy Trust was recognised for its community work in the first ever Evening Express Champion Awards.

2017

The Queens Award for Voluntary Service

In June 2017, Streetsport was awarded the prestigious Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

The award is the equivalent of an MBE for voluntary groups, and is the highest award given to local volunteer groups across the UK to recognise outstanding work in their communities.

The awards were created in 2002 to celebrate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee and winners are announced each year on June 2 – the anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation. Read the full press release here.

Pride of Sport Awards - TSB Community Partner

The Pride of Sport Awards are a national recognition for those that have contributed to sport at a local or national level.

The TSB Community Partner category is awarded in recognition of a group of people who have worked together in partnership as a force for good in their local community, to improve the lives of people around them through sport, supporting young people to thrive and to bring communities together to make a difference.

Pride of Aberdeen Awards - Community Venture Award

The Pride of Aberdeen awards celebrate those who have gone above and beyond in trying to make a difference to the City of Aberdeen. The Community Venture category is awarded by public vote and was won by the Trust’s Chief Operating Officer Mark Williams.

Aberdeen Sport Awards - Young Volunteer of the Year (finalist)

The Aberdeen Sports Awards are an annual celebration of the city's wealth of sporting talent and acknowledges the many facilities, clubs, coaches and volunteers that enable participation across the city. Holly McKnight was a finalist for her outstanding dedication to volunteering with Streetsport.

Aberdeen Sport Awards - Community Partner of the Year

Nexen, a Streetsport principal sponsor, won the Community Partner of the Year for their involvement and ongoing support of the Streetsport programme.

Scottish Football Association Grassroots Awards - Best Community Football for All, North Region

Annual awards to recognise and reward people across the country that make a difference to grassroots football in their local community. Streetsport recognised as "a community based project which has succeeded in encouraging Football for All which includes creating opportunities for people from diverse underrepresented backgrounds, disadvantaged ares and has demonstrated strong growth in participation."

Scottish Policing Excellence Awards - Greatest Contribution to Police Excellence

These national awards recognise excellence and innovation in Scottish policing. Streetsport's win was due to excellence in service delivery against Policing Priorities, and named "best project in the UK using sport and its benefits to change the lives of young people."

Aberdeen Council of Voluntary Organisations (ACVO) Awards - Friends of the Third Sector

Enerco, one of our principal sponsors, won the Friends of the Third Sector award for their involvement and ongoing support of the Streetsport programme.


2016

DYW Quality Accreditation - Bronze Level 

Accreditation received for our Positive Destinations programme. The Developing Young Workforce (DYW) Quality Accreditation is awarded to companies offering initiatives or programmes that encourage and improve the employment & training of young people, aged 3-24, while meeting a core set of requirements to support the development of excellence in the North East.
